Application

There are many types of multipurpose outdoor areas installed in the UK for schools, public parks, commercial projects and domestic gardens. Each of these facilities needs to have a durable, attractive and functional surface that is fit for purpose, along with any equipment that can be installed to enhance the area. The outdoor spaces that we design and install can range between recreational play areas, sports courts, play surfaces for gardens athletics facilities, garden lawns, pathway paving and various other decorative surfaces.

Playground Surface Designs

We can install a vast range of playground surface designs for multipurpose outdoor areas which suit the needs of the children who will be playing on the surfacing by creating fun and educational designs. There are no limits to the number of colours and graphics that we can create and install to your playground surface. These could be in either wetpour rubber or applied to a tarmac play area with thermoplastic markings.

  • Nursery Play Areas

These facilities are often installed in wetpour rubber surfacing as this is made up of a two-layered system with an SBR rubber shockpad to absorb impact from a range of Critical Fall Height Ratings and create a safe area for younger kids to play and use different types of equipment. A variety of colours and graphics can be installed within the nursery play surface to create a fun and engaging environment where younger children can interact with shapes and characters as well as with other kids around them.

  • School Playgrounds

Outdoor recreational surfaces at primary schools can also be installed in the rubber safety surfacing but tend to have more educationally focused designs such as number grids, letter snakes and maps. These school playground facilities encourage participation in active learning outside of the classroom. Most children find it very beneficial as it helps them to pick things up more quickly when they are learning through a fun activity. Other playgrounds, such as those at secondary schools, are often installed with macadam surfacing, this can have colourful graphics applied with thermoplastic markings which are melted onto the surface and can create lines for a number of educational games and sporting activities.

  • Play Equipment

We can offer a range of play equipment for external recreational areas which provide children with an opportunity to participate in physical activities, as well as having different types of outdoor furniture that they can use during playtimes. The various types of playground equipment that we supply can include benches, soft seating, canopies, rubber spheres, fitness trails, slides and climbing towers. You can choose a selection of these different furnishings and accessories to create an enjoyable environment where children can play and interact with each other.

Our team of experts can create a bespoke specification that suits the needs of your project and provides a long-lasting and good looking external surface that is fit for purpose. Macadam MUGA Surfaces

This specification is popular for all-purpose facilities because it’s very durable and versatile so it provides good performance characteristics as well as efficient drainage and all-weather capabilities. Sports you can play on a macadam surface include tennis, netball and basketball. However, it’s also suitable for football training and general multi use activities. We can then apply acrylic anti-slip paint to the court to give it a bright colour. It also enhances the playability for whatever you choose as your primary sport.

  • Polymeric EPDM Surfacing

This is a rubberised hard court specification that comes in a range of colours. It’s also durable and resistant to damage through heavy use by a school or sports club. Polymeric surfaces can be used for general multipurpose use with sports like netball and tennis as well as a variety of other games and activities. We can also apply slip-resistant paint and colour line-markings to this rubber court surface. These help distinguish between markings when playing each different sport.

  • Artificial Grass Pitches

Another Q26 surface specification that we commonly use for multipurpose outdoor areas at schools and clubs is synthetic turf. We can install this for sports pitches for activities like football, rugby and hockey. The 2G sand filled specification is a great choice for football and hockey pitches. Alternatively, the 3G artificial turf carpet is ideal for football and rugby. This is because it provides the most natural characteristics and the rubber infill gives greater impact absorption. Needlepunch synthetic surfacing is the most versatile of the fake carpet specifications. We can install it in a range of bright colours and designs. Schools often choose this surface type for use with football, tennis, hockey, netball and a range of other activities.

Sports Facility Designs

As well as the playground surfaces, we also install multipurpose outdoor areas which can be used for a variety of different sports, these are commonly chosen for secondary schools, colleges and sports clubs which require all weather facilities and may have limited space outside.

A multi-use games area is a great way for school students or members of the public to participate in a number of sports. They can all stay in one place through contrasting coloured line markings for different activities. Our clients have the option to choose from a range of surface types, dimensions and specifications. Each of these provides individual playing qualities which meet SAPCA safety accreditations.

Athletics Track Facilities

Our range of sports facilities also includes surfacing for athletics tracks and long jump runway areas. We can install the full running track surface for a full-sized 400m facility, a smaller sprint track, a long jump/triple jump runway and also high jump fans. These surfaces are available in either polymeric rubber or needlepunch synthetic turf surfacing. It all depends on what you are going to use the area for and who will be using it. Both of these specifications are porous and provide efficient drainage properties for outdoor all-weather surfaces. This means there are suitable for use throughout the year.

The polymeric rubber NBS specification is perfect for secondary schools, colleges and clubs. Places where older students or professional athletes are training and competing in events. Many primary schools and smaller athletics tracks have the needlepunch synthetic carpet installed. This provides a softer surface for younger children and amateur athletes. These are perfect to use during PE lessons, after school clubs and recreational activities. As well as the running track surface we can also install sand landing pits for long jump facilities. We even provide maintenance equipment and a sandpit cover to protect the area.

Decorative Paths and Driveways

Lots of commercial visitor attractions and domestic homes have pathway surfaces installed in decorative paving. These create multipurpose outdoor areas which look attractive and are functional for the particular organisation or client. We can supply and install a number of different flooring options to create a durable and attractive surface. This will be strong enough to withstand pedestrian traffic for pathways as well as vehicles for driveways.

  • Resin Bonded Paving

This is a stone-based surface type that is installed by applying a specialist resin onto an existing hard surface. This could be macadam or concrete, we then scatter loose stone aggregate onto the resin. This then makes it stick firmly to the macadam. When the resin bonded paving system has cured it gives the appearance of loose gravel, but it is a lot more durable and doesn’t require as much maintenance.

  • Resin Bound Surfaces

This is another paving option which is consists of natural gravel aggregate. However, this specification involves mixing the stone with the resin before we apply it to the macadam base. When we layout the mixture it leaves a smooth finish with a natural appearance. It also comes in a range of different colour options and designs.

  • Rhino Pave Specification

We often use this surface type for footpaths and walkways in areas like parks and woodland trails. Anywhere with a lot of trees or natural vegetation which means we can’t do extensive groundworks. The rhino paves surface is made up of rubber granules and stone mixed together and can be laid onto any existing surface without having to excavate down and install a base of macadam or concrete.

  • Tarmacadam Roadways

The macadam surface specification is ideal for multipurpose outdoor areas such as roads, car parks and paths. It provides a lot of strength and durability for heavy vehicle traffic and people walking on it throughout the day. We can install the tarmacadam surfacing in a number of different colours. We can also add specialist paint to road markings and navigation signs for various access routes and car parks.
