Artificial Grass is the new Astro Turf

Artificial grass has become increasingly popular and is widely used throughout both the domestic and education sectors. Artificial grass changes the way you think, feel, perform and is a major driving factor to participation in more sport and play. From the grass roots we encourage children to play outdoors and artificial grass surfaces helps leisure, play and sport activities due to the all weather surface performance. Artificial grass has increased the amount of competitive sport played in schools, colleges and universities. Artificial grass is the terminology used on synthetic surfaces for play and leisure  which in the past has been referred to as Astro turf.

Leisure Grass / Turf

Leisure Turf has become very popular throughout the UK on golf course pathways, embankments, gardens, swimming pool surrounds and leisure complexes.  The advantage of leisure turf is the low maintenance costs and no cutting of grass is needed. This gives your area, a pristine all year round look as well as being comfortable underfoot. It is also used in areas like the centre of roundabouts, flat rooftops and even on tunnel entranceways at sports stadiums.

Synthetic Turf

Sand filled synthetic turf is a vertical pile tufted carpet with sand infill and is a hard wearing all weather sports surface ideal for both a full size Synthetic Turf Pitch (STP) and also a Multi Use Games Area (MUGA) because it has good durability and has progressed vastly from the days of Astro turf.

Sand dressed synthetic turf is a shorter and denser pile with a reduced quantity of sand infill which again is a hard wearing all weather sports surface ideal for both a full size Synthetic Turf Pitch (STP) and also a Multi Use Games Area (MUGA) but generally used where hockey is the primary sport. This again offers great durability and has left Astro turf sports surfacing behind.

Needle-punch is a woven and knitted synthetic turf which helps to keep the sand infill stability within the pile and has higher drainage characteristics but is more driven towards a Multi Use Games Area (MUGA) only and wouldn’t recommend for a full size Synthetic Turf Pitch (STP).

3rd Generation synthetic turf (also known as 3G artificial grass) is primarily for football and rugby which utilise longer fibres in a reduced density and filled with a mix of sand infill and rubber infill granules to provide some shock absorption.   Please visit our sports website on : www.sportsandsafetysurfaces.co.uk
