Grass Mats installed on playgrounds are designed to have holes in the rubberised tile to allow grass to grow through the surfacing system. They are designed in the specification to be installed directly onto the existing ground conditions so are a cheaper system option because do not need any surface groundworks and preparation.
The grass matting safety surfacing is ideal when the costs, prices and budget is low because is an alternative to the wetpour rubber crumb surfaces, rubber mulch safer flooring and therefore is pushed by many play companies because they obviously want to get more equipment on the parks.
The play area safety grass matting can come in various sizes and dimensions but the standard size seems to be 1.5m x 1m tile at a depth of 23mm. This provides a CFH of over 2m for the playground equipment but other sizes and depths can also be specified in the design.
