With many realising the benefits of 3G technology artificial surfacing in sport and the ever-changing synthetic turf technology being produced, it is no surprise to those involved in the sports market that the FA have agreed to the use of these pitches at a higher level.
Times have changed dramatically since the first plastic synthetic pitches were introduced and the sports technology market has undergone rigorous research over the years in order to produce synthetic turf that can meet FIFA 1 and 2 star surfacing, as well as a range of other accreditations when required.
A 12 person committee that included former Manchester United Chief executive David Gill granted the use of synthetic football pitches within the professional game and in doing so quashed some of the stigmas associated with them.
With many being ignorant towards the benefits of synthetic football pitches since they were introduced, it now opens doors for artificial grass experts within the UK to transform how we play football from grassroots right up to the premiership.
Benefits For Clubs
At first instance, it is clear to see how the latest technology 3G surfacing could enhance conference clubs as the synthetic pitch can be used for training, competitive matches and to gain financial income via rentals. It also allows a number of different teams within a club to play on the same pitch. This ranges from the youth set-up to the first team.
In previous years the conference and lower league sides have been put off from installing synthetic pitches. This due to the inability to progress, especially in competitions such as the FA cup. It seemed strange how in recent times an artificial pitch could meet FIFA accreditations suitable for Champions League and the international stage however not deemed suitable for league 1 and 2 teams in England.
