Resin Bound Surfaces in County Durham

Resin-bound surfaces are becoming increasingly popular in County Durham and beyond, offering a durable and aesthetically pleasing alternative to traditional driveway options.

In this comprehensive guide, we will explore the benefits of resin-bound surfaces in County Durham.

Their compliance with sustainable drainage systems, installation process, material selection, maintenance, comparisons with other driveway surfaces, customization options, cost factors, and finding a reputable installer in County Durham.

Benefits of Resin Bound Surfacing

Resin-bound surfaces, such as driveways, pathways, tree pits, and pool surrounds, offer a multitude of benefits over traditional alternatives like loose gravel, block paving, and imprinted concrete.

For starters, the resin-bound surfacing is easy to clean and highly resistant to staining, eliminating the risk of loose stones becoming a nuisance.

Furthermore, resin-bound driveways boast impressive longevity, lasting for many years with minimal maintenance required.

This is due to the unique process of combining clear resin and aggregates, which is then applied to a suitable existing surface like tarmac or concrete.

The result is an attractive, durable, and permeable surface that allows for natural drainage and does not require planning permission.

Durham Driveways offers a comprehensive product range for resin-bound surfaces, featuring a variety of colours and textures, including natural aggregates, marble, and recycled materials.

The use of Recycle Bound, for example, incorporates the equivalent of 3,000 plastic straws per square metre, making it an eco-friendly choice.

In terms of safety, resin-bound driveways may become slippery when exposed to wet or icy conditions.

Crushed glass can be added to the resin-bound stone prior to curing. This will ensure that the driveway surface remains non-slip.

Sustainable Urban Drainage Systems Compliance

Sustainable Urban Drainage Systems (SUDS) compliance is crucial for resin-bound surfaces in County Durham.

The SUDS scheme was implemented to manage stormwater in towns and cities, reducing the risk of flooding and water pollution.

Resin-bound surfaces offer a permeable solution that permits natural drainage, making them compliant with SUDS regulations.

Ensuring SUDS compliance when installing resin-bound surfaces not only helps to protect the environment but also safeguards your property against the damaging effects of flooding.

By choosing a resin-bound driveway, you are contributing to a more sustainable urban drainage system in County Durham and beyond.

When selecting a contractor for your resin-bound surface project, it is essential to choose one with experience in adhering to SUDS compliance guidelines.

This will guarantee a professional installation that meets the necessary standards, helping to mitigate flooding and water pollution risks.

Resin Bound Surface Installation Process

Understanding the installation process of resin-bound surfaces is crucial to ensure a high-quality, long-lasting result.

The process begins with preparing the base, which typically involves using a tarmacadam sub-base for its superior long-term porous properties.

Resin-bound gravel can then be applied over a suitable existing surface, such as tarmac or concrete, provided it is in good condition and has an appropriate sub-base.

Next, the intricate mixing process takes place, combining aggregates and a transparent binder. This requires specialist knowledge to ensure the perfect balance of materials and a smooth finish.

Once the mixture is prepared, it is applied to the surface and trowelled to create an even, attractive appearance.

The curing time for a resin-bound surface is a minimum of 8 hours. It is recommended to avoid walking on the surface for optimal results.

Allow approximately 24 hours for the best outcome. During the installation process, keeping equipment clean is essential to prevent staining and ensure a flawless end result.

Choosing the Right Materials for Resin-Bound Surfaces

Selecting the right materials for your resin-bound surface is essential for achieving the best possible outcome.

Factors to consider include the type of stone, size of aggregate, and the use of UV-resistant resin. UV stable resin ensures that the colour within the resin-bound surface is protected from the sun’s rays, preventing colour fading over time.

Non-UV resin may be a more cost-effective solution, but opting for UV-stable polyurethane resin is recommended for a more durable driveway.

This high-quality resin, when combined with your choice of aggregates, ensures a long-lasting, visually appealing surface that can withstand the elements and daily wear and tear.

When customising your resin-bound surface, consider the wide variety of coloured aggregates available, as well as the different stone types and textures on offer.

This allows you to create a unique and personalized driveway that complements your property’s aesthetic and enhances its kerb appeal.

Resin Bound Surface Maintenance and Care

Proper maintenance and care are crucial to ensure the longevity of your resin-bound surface.

Establishing a servicing plan and initiating regular maintenance right away will help prevent the surface from becoming slippery and dangerous due to the accumulation of leaves, weeds, and debris.

Recommended maintenance for resin-bound surfaces includes soft pressure washing to remove dirt and stains effectively.

In colder months, snow and ice can be removed using a soft-bristled sweep or a rubberized scraper to prevent damaging the surface.

When it comes to weed control, it is essential to avoid oil-based weed killers, which can damage the resin-bound surface.

Instead, opt for environmentally friendly alternatives or manual removal to preserve the integrity and appearance of your driveway.

Comparing Resin-Bound Surfaces with Other Driveway Options

When compared to other driveway options such as loose gravel, block paving, and imprinted concrete, resin-bound surfaces offer several advantages.

For starters, resin-bound surfaces demonstrate superior durability, value for money, and a higher-quality finish.

Loose gravel driveways, for example, can be prone to shifting and displacement, requiring regular maintenance and top-ups.

Block paving, on the other hand, can become uneven over time and may require periodic re-sanding and sealing to maintain its appearance.

Imprinted concrete driveways, while initially attractive, can suffer from colour fading and surface cracking over time, leading to costly repairs.

By contrast, resin-bound surfaces require minimal maintenance, provide a permeable solution for natural drainage, and offer a vast array of design options to suit any property style.

This makes them an excellent choice for homeowners seeking a durable, attractive, and cost-effective driveway solution.

Customising Your Resin Bound Surface

One of the key benefits of resin-bound surfaces is the ability to customise the design to suit your individual taste and property style.

With a vast range of colours, textures, and aggregates available, you can create a truly unique and personalised driveway or pathway.

In addition to selecting your preferred colour and texture, you can enhance your resin-bound surface further by adding contrast borders using different coloured aggregates, or even creating intricate patterns.

The possibilities are endless, allowing you to design a driveway that not only serves its functional purpose but also adds a touch of elegance and style to your property.

Cost Factors for Resin Bound Surfaces

In Durham, the cost of resin-bound paving is approximately £60 per square metre.

The cost of installing a resin-bound surface is influenced by several factors, including the size of the area, labour, materials (e.g. stone type), and the use of UV-resistant resin.

It is important to note that, although the initial investment may be higher than some traditional driveway options, resin-bound surfaces require minimal ongoing maintenance, resulting in long-term cost savings.

When evaluating the cost of your resin-bound surface project, consider the many benefits it offers, such as durability, low maintenance, and customizability.

These factors, combined with the long-term cost savings, make resin-bound surfaces a worthwhile investment for homeowners seeking an attractive, functional, and cost-effective driveway solution.

Finding a Reputable Installer in County Durham

Selecting a reputable installer for your resin-bound surface project is crucial to ensure a high-quality, long-lasting result.

Researching companies, checking customer reviews, and asking for references can help you make an informed decision.

When evaluating reviews, consider factors such as the quality of the installation, materials used, and customer service provided.

Requesting references will give you further insight into the installer’s previous projects, allowing you to assess their workmanship and the satisfaction of their clients.

One reputable installer in County Durham is Oltco Durham and Sunderland. With a wealth of experience in resin-bound surface installations, they offer a 20-year guarantee on their resin-bound blends and a commitment to customer satisfaction.

Taking the time to find a reputable installer will ensure a flawless finish and a driveway that stands the test of time.

Resin-Bound Surfaces in East Yorkshire

Imagine a driveway that not only looks stunning, but also offers durability, permeability, and low maintenance.

In this blog post, we’ll explore the world of resin-bound surfaces in East Yorkshire, discussing their benefits, local installers, customisation options, and more.

Benefits of Resin-Bound Surfaces in East Yorkshire

Resin-bound surfaces have gained popularity in East Yorkshire due to their numerous advantages.

One of the primary benefits is their durability, as they are more hard-wearing than traditional surfacing options like tarmac, gravel, and concrete.

This makes them an ideal choice for driveways, pathways, and commercial areas that require a long-lasting surface.

Another significant advantage of resin-bound surfacing is its permeability. These surfaces allow water to pass through, reducing the risk of flooding and complying with Sustainable Urban Drainage Systems (SUDS).

This means that East Riding residents can enjoy a functional, eco-friendly surface that effectively manages water drainage.

Moreover, resin-bound surfaces are available in several different colours and designs. This means that homeowners in East Yorkshire can customize their driveways and pathways to complement their property’s aesthetic.

With so many benefits, it’s no wonder that resin-bound surfacing is becoming increasingly popular in the region.

Local Resin-Bound Surface Installers

When it comes to installing resin-bound surfaces in East Yorkshire, local installers are the way to go.

They provide a range of services, including designing and installing resin-bound driveways, pathways, patios, and balconies, with various colours and designs available.

Prestige Paving and Landscapes Ltd and BDS Yorkshire are just two examples of local companies that offer resin-bound driveway services in the area.

Hiring a professional company is essential to ensure a high-quality installation. Part-time or amateur installers may lack the experience and expertise needed to achieve an optimal outcome.

Local installers not only provide design and installation services but also offer competitive price quotations and assistance with selecting the best materials for your project.

By choosing a local installer, you can expect personalized service and a team of specialists with in-depth knowledge of resin-bound surfaces.

Customising Your Resin-Bound Surface

One of the most appealing aspects of resin-bound surfaces is the ability to customise them. Homeowners in East Yorkshire have complete control over the final look of their project.

Several colours and designs are available for resin-bound surfacing. This means you can create a surface that perfectly complements your property’s aesthetic.

In addition to colour options, you can also choose from a variety of textures and incorporate features such as edging and drainage.

This flexibility allows you to design a resin-bound surface that is both functional and visually appealing.

To ensure the best results, it’s essential to work closely with your chosen installer. They will help guide you through the customisation process, ensuring you select the most suitable colours, textures, and additional features for your unique project.

The result will be a stunning and durable resin-bound surface enhancing your property.

Installation Process for Resin-Bound Gravel Paving

The installation process for resin-bound gravel is relatively straightforward. It begins with preparing the foundation, which may involve removing an existing surface if it’s unsuitable for the expected traffic.

A reliable and permeable sub-base is then laid to ensure the durability of the surface over its lifespan.

Next, the aggregate and a clear binder are applied to create the resin-bound surface. This combination of gravel and polyurethane binder forms a SUDS-compliant permeable surface that is both durable and visually appealing.

In most cases, contractors can ensure that a new base is permeable and SuDS compliant, allowing for efficient drainage and reducing the risk of flooding.

By following these steps, you’ll have a beautiful and functional resin-bound gravel surface built to last.

Comparing Resin-Bound and Other Surfacing Options

When compared to other surfacing options, resin-bound surfaces stand out in terms of durability and maintenance.

They are more durable than tarmac, gravel, concrete, or block paving, making them a long-lasting solution for driveways and other surfaces.

This means that homeowners in East Riding can enjoy a surface that requires less frequent repair or replacement.

In addition to their durability, resin-bound surfaces also require less maintenance than traditional options.

Regular cleaning and weed removal are necessary to maintain their porosity and safety, but this is generally less time-consuming than maintaining tarmac, concrete, or block paving.

Another advantage of resin-bound surfaces is their aesthetic appeal. With a wide range of colours and designs available, homeowners can create a unique and visually stunning surface that enhances their property.

Overall, resin-bound surfaces offer numerous benefits compared to traditional surfacing options, making them an ideal choice for homeowners in East Yorkshire.

Maintaining Your Resin-Bound Surface

To keep your resin-bound surface in top condition, regular cleaning and weed removal are essential.

This maintenance helps preserve the porosity and safety of your surface, ensuring it remains functional and attractive for years to come.

When it comes to cleaning, a contamination killer is recommended for the removal of weeds from resin-bound surfaces. Avoid using oil-based products, as they can damage the surface and reduce its lifespan.

In addition to cleaning, it’s essential to inspect your surface regularly for any signs of damage or wear and address any issues promptly.

For those who prefer a professional touch, services like Rockpave Clean & Care can help maintain the quality and aesthetics of your resin-bound surface.

By following these maintenance tips, you’ll ensure that your resin-bound surface remains a beautiful and functional addition to your property.

Environmental Benefits of Resin-Bound Surfaces

Resin-bound surfaces offer several environmental benefits, making them an eco-friendly choice for homeowners in East Yorkshire.

One of the primary advantages is their permeability, which allows water to pass through the surface and reduces runoff. This helps prevent flooding and complies with Sustainable Urban Drainage Systems (SUDS).

In addition to their permeability, resin-bound surfaces are also manufactured using natural stone and gravel aggregate, making them a more sustainable option compared to other surfacing materials.

By choosing a resin-bound surface, you’re not only investing in a durable and attractive solution for your property but also contributing to a greener environment.

As more East Riding homeowners becoming environmentally conscious, resin-bound surfaces are emerging as a popular choice for driveways, pathways, and other surfaces.

Their permeability, reduced runoff, and use of natural materials make them an environmentally friendly option that doesn’t compromise on aesthetics or functionality.

Cost Factors for Resin-Bound Surfaces in East Yorkshire

When considering resin-bound surfaces in East Yorkshire, several cost factors come into play. The area size, for instance, can impact the overall cost, as a larger surface requires more materials and labour.

Additionally, the complexity of the project and the experience of the installer can also affect the cost of labour.

The choice of stone and the use of UV-resistant resin can also have an impact on the cost of your resin-bound surface.

Higher-quality stones and UV-resistant resin may result in a higher overall cost, but they also ensure a longer-lasting and more durable surface.

By understanding these cost factors, you can make informed decisions when selecting materials and installers for your resin-bound surface project.

Working with a professional company that offers competitive pricing and quality materials will help ensure that you get the best value for your investment.

Preparing Your Property for a Resin-Bound Surface Installation

Before installing a resin-bound surface, it’s essential to prepare your property adequately. Start by removing the existing cover if it’s unsuitable for the expected traffic. Next, ensure the sub-base is secure and free from visible fractures.

To guarantee a level surface, sweep the area and make sure it is dry and free from dust. If the surface is soil or grass, groundwork preparation is necessary.

Proper preparation will ensure a successful installation and a resin-bound surface that lasts for years to come.

Resin Bonded Gravel Specification

When installing a resin bonded gravel specification, it is crucial the existing surface is dry and clean. It should be durable enough to withstand the new resin bonded gravel specification that you apply. This surface is a scatter system that we apply by hand. As this is a bound aggregate you don’t have to worry about loose stone becoming an issue or leading to a lot of maintenance requirements.

Resin Bonded Spec

One main advantage of a resin-bonded gravel specification is that these surfaces are incredibly durable, allowing for regular use of the flooring without having to worry about a lot of maintenance. This aggregate should only be installed on concrete or tarmacadam bases and is done so by applying the layer of resin to the flooring, followed by scattering the loose stone onto the surface. This will then gel together over time using an acrylic mixture, leaving you with strong and durable paving for paths, driveways car parks and commercial attractions.

We can provide details on the resin-bonded spec in more detail if necessary, simply fill in our contact form and we will reply as soon as possible.

Resin Bonded Stone Paving

Resin-bonded stone paving can help to completely transform your existing surface, quickly turning a run-down area into decorative flooring. This type of surfacing is often a popular choice for driveways. The resin-bonded stone paving gives the appearance of loose stone but without the added hassle of a traditional stone driveway.

We can install resin-bonded paving to many different specifications and dimensions. We also offer a variety of colours, as well as a range of designs of stone aggregate to ensure the facility is exactly how you want it. These surfaces are very popular for driveways and other domestic areas. They have anti-slip and anti-skid properties along with the fact that this aggregate is very durable. These factors make resin-bonded stone paving an excellent surface for parking vehicles on. You can find more benefits of resin bonded paving if you’d like to learn about this specification.

Bonded Gravel Design

There are a number of colours we can install the resin-bonded gravel in. We can alter the bonded gravel design to meet your individual needs and requirements. The design of the surface is a scatter system. This means that we install the resin onto the surface first then scatter the stones across the area. This means that the stones will bond to resin, but the surfacing will not be smooth.

The bonded gravel design is not a permeable surface type, which means that water cannot drain through. However, some people may decide to have this rather than porous resin bound surfacing due to the anti-skid qualities provided. This makes the surface great for those driveways on slopes.

The client for this came to us wanting a new pathway for their area perfect for use all year round, and when we explained the many advantages of resin bound to them they booked us in straight away to carry out the works.

The resin bound surfacing we install across the UK is a hard surface that gives the appearance of natural stone, however it’s actually fitted completely flat. What this means is that the aesthetics of natural stone remain, but without the frustrating maintenance needed. With resin bound, debris and buildup can simply be brushed aside, making this an excellent surface to pathways and walkways.

Hi guys it’s Dan here, and today we’re going to be showing you a Resin bound Installation that we carried out in Cheshire Oaks

So this client gave us a call explaining that they wanted a new hard surface for their area, and when we described the resin-bound flooring we offer we were on site before we knew it.

So resin bound is a brilliant option for outdoor spaces like walkways and driveways as this flooring is installed completely flat despite giving the appearance of natural stone. What this means is that the usual maintenance required for the loose stone surfacing isn’t needed with resin bound, making it a brilliant choice over its counterparts.

Additionally, resin-bound flooring is a porous surface option, which enhances its outdoor appeal as it’s significantly less susceptible to flooding than rival surface types.

Not only that, resin bound is available in a huge list of colours to choose from, so whatever your area there will be colours to compliment it. All of these factors make resin bound a fantastic choice.

We’re a nationwide company here at Soft Surfaces and have been carrying out resin-bound works across the country for over two decades now. No job is too big or too small for us, so please contact us if you’re interested.

As you can see the job has now been fully installed and looks awesome in the tan colour they specified. The client was so happy with how their new surface looked, and with the quality of the job we carried out for them.
